2018 Harvest Dinner fundraiser at Adele’s

Chefs Charlie Abowd and Michelle Palmer, both part of the James Beard House team.

Every year we are honored to be invited back to Cafe at Adele‘s in Carson City, to photograph the Greenhouse Project fall fundraiser – the Celebrity Harvest Dinner. This year was even more special, as chef Charlie Abowd featured the dinner he prepared at the James Beard House in New York City 15 years ago. Jeremy and I have figured out, over the years, that the best way for us to completely cover this event is for him to circulate and shoot the crowd in the restaurant, and for me to navigate my way through the tight quarters of the kitchen. We do our best to represent the highlights of the evening, in the hopes that those unable to attend will get a taste (so to speak) of what they missed and perhaps try to attend next year. Unfortunately neither of us got a shot of the menu, but I’ll do my best here to share the experience.

Charlie preps his servers before the guests arrive.

One of the appetizer spoons – this one with ahi tuna.

Florida Strawberry Grouper W/ Lemon Foam & Caviar.

Prawn appetizer.

Borda Lamb main dish.

Dessert of three ice creams made with Charlie’s special ingredient. Pink was watermelon, yellow was mango, and white was made with a special liqueur no longer in production. Unfortunately I can’t remember the name. It was all delicious.

Photo bomb by sommelier Steve.

Tight quarters in this kitchen. It’s amazing there aren’t more accidents.

Something tells me they’ve done this once or twice before.

Like a well-oiled machine.

By the end of the night, things get a little punchy.
